I got myself a 160GB hard drive to replace my 20GB one for my Dell Latitude C840 laptop. When I start the XP installation, I ran into this pop-up.http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y26/CBa…
It says:
“An error has been encountered that prevents Setup from continuing.
Setup failed to install the product catalogs. This is a fatal error. The setup log files should contain more information.
Press OK to view the Setup log files”
So I clicked OK and got this pop-up:http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y26/CBa…
which says:
“Error:

Notebook Hard Drive Dilema?

Hi, I’m thinking about ordering a notebook this week so that I can use it in college. I have a pretty good idea of what type of hardware I will be getting. However, I can’t decide on the hard drive. I really want to get a 7200rpm hard drive since those are faster (and allow video editing programs to run a lot faster). However, a lot of manufacturers don’t allow you to get 7200rpm hard drives. My options are HP, Dell, and IBM. Dell is the only one that allows you to get a 7200rpm hard drive in a 15.4 inch laptop. However, those are extremely overpriced. I check hp’s site, but they only allow you to get a 7200rpm hard drive with their bulky 17 inch laptops. What is my best option?

When my laptop’s 40Gb hard drive failed, Dell sent me a replacement drive whilst the faulty drive was sent to a data recovery company. This company recommended a partition whilst recovery was taking place. I now have the replacement drive which I am now using. My C drive is 19.53GB NTFS Healthy (System) and I also have 17.27GB Unallocated. How can I I instead have a 40Gb hard drive without losing programs and data?

I already have 160 gig hard drive in my current laptop…but the old laptop has a hard drive of 80 gig. Since I have an extra slot, and these are both 17 inch inspirons from dell… would this be a compatible fit?
If not, where are cheap laptop hard drives compatible with Dell Inspiron 1720?

Ok, so on 17 Aug 08 I purchased this laptop from Future Shop in Halifax. Yesterday [Sunday] it failed to detect the hard drive and during a test I got error code 2000-0141. Should I deal with Dell tech support or take to the Future shop where I purchased it (note: I live about 200km away from that FS).
What Is A Good Hard Sided Laptop Case?

I have a Dell 1705 (17″) screen. I’m looking for a hard sided case that I can use inside my backpack to carry my laptop around in. I need something that isn’t too bulky, but a little more rugged than just a neoprene sleeve. I also don’t want to pay more than about $50. Any suggestions?
