I’m getting a new laptop soon and have been looking at a Dell Studio 17 or an XPS 1530 and I want to know which graphics card is better for gaming/photoshop and all that.
An Nvidia 8600M or an ATI 3650.
Note – all other specs are basically the same its just the graphics card which is my concern.

so i want to get a new laptop. i want a good laptop. prefreibly from Hp, Sony, and Dell.
my budget is under $1000 and prefirble under $900. ($1000 max price is kinda pushing it)
i would like eather a 14.5 inch screen or a 17 inch screen. 15.4 would seem alittle to standerd for that kind of price..but thats just me
i am no hardcore gamer. the only games i would play is Flight Simulator 2004 and the sims 2. anny one know of a laptop that can handel those games on near or max setting?
and what is the diffrence between 3gb of ram and 4gb of ram? is there a big diffrence when im not gona be playing the hardest games on max settings?
thanks guys

Workstation Graphics Cards? Will An Entertainment Card Do The Job?

I heard entertainment cards are the ones driving the industry (e.g. gaming computers) so it should suffice for a workstation …or will it?
This is going to be a workstation for a CMM (coordinate measuring machine) which is for reverse engineering, just the opposite of CAD.
A cheaper route for a laptop selection is the HP computer with the entertainment graphics card: NVIDIA(R) GeForce(R) Go 7600
The CMM has used a Dell computer with the workstation graphics card of: NVIDIA Quadro FX 350M Turbocache OpenGL
What does a workstation graphics card have over a gaming card? (HP 17″ entertainment/gaming laptop is about $1500 while a 17″ Dell workstation laptop is almost twice the cost)

Graphics Card On A Laptop?

I’m buying a dell studio 17 laptop http://configure.dell.com/dellstore/conf…
The only thing I’m changing in customization would be the graphics card, from the media accelorated to the ATI Mobility Radeon 256mb 3650 HD. However, would it be possible to install a different graphics card onto this laptop after purchase with the help of our families computer servicer (family friend) that would be ideal in running current and future games?
I’m looking at the BFG GeForce 8800 GT 512MB PCIe Video Card ( http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddet… ), but any one that would install on a laptop would work
my last question is, is a 1440 x 900 laptop display HD?

Is It Possible To Upgrade A Graphics Card In A Dell Studio 17 Laptop? ?

I’m sorry to say that it’s not possible for your specific laptop. Check out my source.
As the source suggests, most laptops today use graphics chips soldered into the motherboard rather than separate graphics cards. Dell’s XPS 1730 is one of the last laptops with a separate graphics unit, so don’t be so quick to flame Dell.
